i have a 94 gsr coupe with a custom turbo kit on it. it is basically a drag kit, but i am having problems with burning oil. it doesnt seem to burn the oil unless under full throttle and full boost, 6psi. i have noticed that there is oil leaking from the breather filter off the valve cover and looks like there is oil leaking out ofthe exhaust manifold; i have a broken bolt on the head and i dont think that the manifold is sealed. if anyone can help i would appreciate it. right now i am the only FI honda in my town and no one seems to be able to help. I was told that i may have blow-by and the rings on the pistons are bad. if that is true then i wnat to take my spare block and get it built. if anyone knows how much that would cost to do then lemme know. i want to re-sleeve it and do pistons and rods, but leave a stock crank and stock bore on the pistons. but i am really concerned with the oil problem.

the engine has about 75K miles on it. and it is ia broken manifold bolt. it is recessed in the head and i was told that i shouldnt try to remove the bolt because i could damamge the head. i was going to get it done when i put my new block on. so basically the oil out of the breather filter is normal with boost, and i should make a bleedoff can like the one for the radiator? when i take my car in for a valve adjustment this week, will they be able to tell if the valve guides are bad, if so how hard are they to replace? thanks in advance.

i have a 94 gsr coupe with a custom turbo kit on it. it is basically a drag kit,

Q:What is the mileage on the engine?

but i am having problems with burning oil. it doesnt seem to burn the oil unless under full throttle and full boost, 6psi.

    A:This could be blow by:
A high mileage engine or broken or worn rings will allow oil to get into the combustion chamber. Worn Valve guide seals do the same thing

i have noticed that there is oil leaking from the breather filter off the valve cover

A:This seems to be a normal side effect in forced induction honda engines. Look for a post on this board about purge cans/reservoirs.

and looks like there is oil leaking out of the exhaust manifold; i have a broken bolt on the head

    Q: A broken head bolt/or a broken manifold bolt?
A: Both are no good. If it is a head bolt you could warp the head, loss of compression, leak coolant and/or oil. If it is a broken exhaust bolt, then you will not boost to potential due to pressure loss at the gasket. Whichever bolt it is remove it and replace it!
Use an bolt extractor if the bolt cannot be gripped.

If you see a blue tinted smoke emmitting from your exhuast under boost you are burning oil and have an internal leak somewhere. If you do not see bluish smoke, then chances are you have an external oil leak. Either at the breather valve or the valve cover gasket. If you EGR is plummed back into the intake, then check to see if the oil from the head is being routed back into the intake (from boost conditions) in front of the throttle body. This would eventually create bluish smoke too.

Replace broken bolt. If gasket was not new when turbo kit was put on, then replace too. Replace valve cover gasket. If oil loss does not disappear, then have cylinders compression checked. This will determine the condition of your rings.

Also make sure the oil line running through the turbine housing is not cracked or leaking into the turbo housing. This may cause bluish smoke condition too as weel as oil loss.

    keep us posted. Good luck.

the best recommendation from me is to do a standard compression test and a leak-down test.

As for rebuilding your spare block, nominally:

rods/pistons/head studs/sleeving optional(unless you plan on running >24psi), blockguard unless if you plan on sleeving then let them weld the aluminum fitting and drill holes for head gasket/coolant passage.

I'd recommend Bensons on the West coast or DRT on the East Coast.

DRT is in NY and they are close personal friends to me ... so I trust them and definitely recommend them. If you need their phone number, 718-397-8586, tell them Greg (FROG owner) recomemnded you.

    Good luck.

And, one more thing ... start thinking about bigger injectors and aftermarket management. Most people tend to forget about that when thinking about a fully built bottom end with hopes/plans on high boost levels.
